John A. Schlaff, Of Counsel (Los Angeles Office)
Mr. Schlaff also has extensive experience handling cutting-edge appellate work at the highest level of competence in both the state and federal court systems, and he has successfully prosecuted and opposed appeals, certiorari petitions, and petitions for extraordinary writs. He has an excellent understanding of the dynamics of small businesses, venture capital firms, and start-up firms, and he has been an innovative litigator of disputes arising in these lines of commerce. Above all, he has a substantial record of demonstrable success as a litigator and appellate practitioner, having devoted himself full-time to litigation and appellate work in California since 1988. He formerly worked with two suberb firms -- McKenna, Conner & Cueno (Los Angeles office) and afterwards with Belin, Rawlings & Badal (Los Angeles office). Before receiving his law degree, Mr. Schlaff obtained a B.A. and then a Master's Degree in English Literature from the University of California, Los Angeles. While at Harvard Law School, Mr. Schlaff was named the "Entrepreneur of the Year" in 1986 a joint program sponsored by the Law School and Harvard Business School. Mr. Schlaff lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two children. He remains an avid reader, is widely respected in the profession by his peers, and is a very capable, versatile litigator and appellate attorney who has obtained excellent results in various significant cases, including several landmark matters. Mr. Schlaff and Mr. Markham were classmates at Harvard Law School who have remained friends and have collaborated in many matters since their graduation.
